Beach, John D.
1952
Necessitas quae est ex materia
Beach’s dissertation considers the “role played by the material principles of things in the economy of nature.” It treats of materialism and, in contrast to its understanding of matter, turns to defend a hylomorphic view of the subordinate and instrumental role of the material cause, while indicating ways in which material necessity has supremacy as a cause within a limited scope.
